A DEC Biologist recently reported at the Southtowns Walleye Association October meeting status of Cormorants in Eastern Lake Erie:

* The biologist counted over 3,000 cormorants on one outing.
* Cormorants eat about 1 pound of fish daily
* The Cormorant feces destroy habitat. In trees where the birds are perched all leaves were destroyed and tree was dying
* The NY DEC has been oiling the eggs to help control the population.
