A Letter From The Captain
Attention Fisherman,
The 2007 fishing season is rapidly approaching us! After an incredible year in 2006, the Double Trouble crew has reloaded and is ready for another great season. For your comfort, we have recently upgraded our boat to a 31’ Sea Ray Weekender; which will allow more room for passengers as well as a much more comfortable ride at sea. Aside from that, there are many other things to look forward to in the upcoming season.
Lake Erie Walleye ~ April-July ~ Bolles Harbor
As expected the 2006 Walleye season was a record-breaking one, with nearly every trip resulting in a limit catch of these succulent freshwater fish. The fishery last season was dominated by the monstrous 2003 hatch and was supported by the hatches of earlier years. This season those fish from the 2003 hatch can be expected to be in the 18-22 inch range, or about 3 pounds. Along with that great hatch, the offspring of large 2005 hatch will begin to come into play this year, with many fish attaining legal size by the summer months. Our fishing season will begin in late March, when the spawning season is commencing. During this time we will be fishing near the mouth of the Maumee River, ambushing the fish as they complete the spawning cycle and head back into the heart of Lake Erie. For the duration of this period we will be drifting, using hair jigs to coax these tired sluggish fish out of the cool spring water. Once the fish have spawned and moved to their summer haunts we will begin using the more traditional methods of trolling with planer boards, and casting with the infamous “Lake Erie Weapon.” All in all Lake Erie Walleye fishing is as good as it has ever been and shows no sign of fading anytime soon!
Lake Michigan Salmon & Trout ~ July-September ~ Ludington
Although the size of Lake Michigan Salmon may not be quite as big as they once were; the numbers are higher than they have ever been. Throughout the last several years the catch rates of Ludington charter boats has steadily increased. Each year Michigan DNR and the Ludington Area Charterboat Association stock the waters near Ludington, assuring the fishery will remain great for years to come. Throughout the year we will follow the large schools of adult Salmon from the cool offshore waters as they move toward their native river mouths to spawn. Along with the incredible fishery, the attractions and beaches in and around Ludington are well worth the visit.
Lake Erie Perch ~ September-October ~ Bolles Harbor
After the Salmon have moved upriver to spawn, we travel back down to Lake Erie in seek of Lake Erie’s other delicacy: the perch, which begin staging for their upcoming spawning season. It is not uncommon to catch hundreds of perch on a single outing, with the average size in the 8-10 inch range. These charters are not only inexpensive, but they are also a great experience for young children and novice anglers. Perch fishing on Lake Erie is hard to beat!
No matter what type of fishing you prefer 2007 promises to be an outstanding season! We thank you for your patronage and would love to see you aboard again!
